In 1973, Martin Cooper, an engineer, made the first mobile phone in New York City, USA. That's why called Martin Cooper the father of mobile phones. He was working for Motorola, a small telecom company at the time. His dream was to have a day when everyone would have their own phone, and they could be contacted at any time. At the time, the telephone was a thing that was attached to a person's work table at home. That is why the concept of the mobile phone was like science fiction to the common people. An American named Tracy, a comic character, communicated with one another using a radio wristwatch. That was the first time Martin Cooper thought of a mobile phone from that idea. That's exactly what a team of 20-30 people led by Martin Cooper did in just 30 days.

When was the mobile phone invented?
The first mobile phone model was unveiled at the Hilton Hotel in New York in April 1973, 48 years ago today.

First Mobile Phone Size:
The first mobile phone was 10 inches long, 2 inches wide and about four inches thick. That mobile phone weighs more than one kilogram. Talking for only 20 minutes would have depleted the battery of the phone. Many people laughed when they saw that phone, but in the real sense, making such a phone at that time was a kind of impossible challenge. The first mobile phone call in the history of the world was made by Martin Cooper. He did this while walking down Six Avenue in New York to one of his engineer friends who worked for the ATNT company. ATNT was then the largest telecom company not only in America but in the whole world.

However, it took about ten more years for the first mobile phone to hit the market.

The first Motorola Diana TSC 8001 model came on the market in 1983. The price of that mobile was four thousand dollars. Besides, the call rate was much higher then. In those days mobile phones were used as toys by many rich people. For many, that mobile phone looks like a brick and to others, it looks like a shoe. So many people called it the Brick and others called it Shoe phone. However, Martin Cooper named Dynamic Adaptive Total Area Coverage or Diana Tech.
